I am, and have always been, a hopeless romantic and a portrait session with a proposal is right up my alley. I was thrilled when Hayden contacted me to plan a lifestyle portrait session with the highlight being him asking Stefanie to marry him! Hayden is a Canadian, now living in Miami Florida, and while on vacation he wanted to propose at a place that has nostalgic significance. He has fond childhood memories of time spent at Gaff Point.
Gaff Point is a glorious and varied trail on the South Shore, it is, undoubtedly, one of my favourite places to get outside and enjoy fresh air and the beautiful coastline. To say that the weather in Nova Scotia is unpredictable might be an understatement but the day of our session was one of the strangest days I have ever experienced here; fluctuations from bright sunshine, to overcast clouds with driving frigid wind, to hail and even snow. As we embarked on the walk along the rocky beach to the trail access point I think Stefanie might have been having reservations about forging ahead with the lifestyle session that she and Hayden had booked. She was born and raised in Venezuela and she felt the chill in the air acutely. It’s a good thing that she went along with us as we trudged along the beach discussing some of our favourite aspects of the hike.
Hayden and I had carefully considered the location for his proposal and it was spectacular! Following Stefanie saying “YES!” we spent the next few hours hiking the trail and stopping for photographs along the way.
One of my favourite parts of the job is meeting people and learning about their lives – these two surprised me. They are a power couple – literally! Both compete in power lifting and Stefanie holds numerous world records in the sport. They told me about their lives in Florida, running a gym and coaching as well as competing all over the world. They are a fantastic couple and it was a delightful afternoon.
Congratulations Hayden and Stefanie!
